An International Session on Cooperation in the Arctic was held during the 7th Murmansk International Business Week in mid-November, moderated by the Head of the International Barents Secretariat Tomas Hallberg. A wide range of topics from the youth cooperation to the Northern Sea Route was discussed in the session, reflected also by the Chienese and Icelandic perspectives.
The session was hosted by the Governor of Murmansk region Marina Kovtun, who enphasized the spirit of good cooperation and reminded, that the bilateral cooperation across the border started with the Norwegian region of Finnmark already 30 years ago. Region Mayor of Finnmark Ragnhild Vassvik made a special statement on the importance of good neighborhood. The two regional leaders exchanged the gifts to assure about their commitment in the future.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was represented in the session by the member of the Barents Committee of Senior Officials Sergey Petrovich, who underlined, that this session was the first trial of the so called “Barents Davos” high-level forum, proposed by Russia, to be held on regular basis.
The session was successful and attracted a big number of participants. The Governor Kovtun promised, that Murmansk region could host such a Barents panel annually in the future.
