In conjunction with the conclusion of the Swedish Chairmanship in the Barents Euro-Arctic Council (BEAC) 2017-2019, Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Ann Linde invites guests for a Ministerial meeting in Umeå on October 3. The meeting will focus on the achievements of the Swedish Chairmanship and future cooperation in the Barents region.
The overarching topic of the Swedish Chairmanship in the BEAC has been Environmental-, Economic-, and Social aspects of sustainable development as well as people-to-people contacts with a special emphasis on youth and equality. After the Ministerial meeting, Sweden will hand over its chairmanship to Norway.
Alongside with the meeting there will be a press conference with the Ministers for Foreign Affairs and other participants.
EU Arctic Forum is organized in Umeå on October 3-4 by Sweden and the EU. Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Ann Linde will host the Forum on behalf of Sweden. The meeting will be held in the presence of H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria.
The Forum will gather state representatives from the EU countries, members and observers of the Arctic Council as well as international organizations, regions, municipalities, civil activists, indigenous peoples, researchers, students, business leaders and many more. The overall number of participants is expected to be around 500 people.
EU Arctic Forum includes a high-level session featuring participation of Foreign Ministers and leading international experts, a thematic panel discussion and Indigenous People’s Dialogue. This is the first time the EU organizers Arctic Forum in this format. Special attention will be devoted to international cooperation in the Arctic, climate and environment issues, sustainable investments and regional connectivity.
In conjunction with the Forum, there will be a press conference with the hosts right after the high-level session. Media will also be able to attend the Forum.
