New face at IBS

Julia-internet.jpgJulia Bobina has started her work at IBS in September 2018

Julia has been involved in the Barents cooperation since 2011, first serving as an intern at the Norwegian Barents Secretariat Office in Arkhangelsk and later in 2012 being an intern at the International Barents Secretariat in Kirkenes. As an environmental enthusiast with over ten years of interest in the Barents region, we are sure that Julia Bobina will make an asset to the IBS’s team.

Originally Julia comes from Arkhangelsk and during the past three years she has been living in Bodø, Norway. Julia graduated from three northernmost universities and successfully completed three programs, which have enriched her knowledge of the Barents Euro-Arctic region: Northern Arctic Federal University in Russia, Nord University in Norway and the University of Northern British Columbia in Canada.

Julia obtained her master’s degree in social science at Nord university in Bodø where she focused on studying young people’s perceptions and engagement with climate change. Findings of her master thesis contributed to Grete Kaare Hovelsrud’s project, Primary Industries and Transformational Change (PITCH), and have been published by CICERO (Center for International Climate and Environmental Research – Oslo) on their website.

Julia says that getting far from big city life is a reawakening experience and living close to nature fuels her motivation and ability to succeed at work. That’s why moving to Kirkenes was a natural choice for her. Julia believes that in order to ensure environmentally-friendly, safe and considerable life in the Barents, the region needs more employees with different backgrounds.

The Secretariat warmly welcomes Julia to Kirkenes!
Her contact details can be found on the web page of the IBS.
