The Joint Working Group on Health and related Social Issues (JWGHS) organised a meeting in Rovaniemi 14-15 April. The meeting was attended by close to 30 representatives from the different member states and regions, of which three regional ministers from Russia were present. The first day of the meeting was devoted to discussions about the status of the work on health and social issues in the region, with presentations from the attending regions and states.
In addition, reports were given about the working group’s different programmes. The Barents Programme for Children and Youth at Risk (CYAR), reported to have organised 30 competence-building activities per year, resulting in training for 1200 professionals and assistance to 5000 children and families. However, due to lack of project funds, the programme will down-scale its activities in the coming year.
During the second day of the meeting, study visits were arranged at the Lapland University of Applied Sciences and at the Arctic Centre in Rovaniemi.
