High North AiR network is a network for organizations that run or want to establish Artist-in-Residence programs in the northern parts of Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Northwest Russia. The general objective of the network is to promote existing and support the establishment of new guest artist-in-residence programs, and regional and international co-operation on art projects.

High North AiR network will organize annual meetings, seminars and workshops, support the communication and co-operation between guest studios and contribute to make information on the residency programs in the high north more easily accessible for artists.

The Northern Lights Festival- ongoing activities during the whole year

In 2012 The Northern Lights Festival celebrated 25th anniversary. The Northern Lights Festival has each year presented top artists from a wide variety of genres ranging from early music to modern, from opera to jazz, from chamber music to symphonic orchestras. The festival also offers spectacular outdoor events, lectures, exhibitions and other events like the Northern Lights cruise, festival pubs and master classes for musicians.The Northern Lights Festival is an art music festival of high quality with a program of interest for a wide-ranging audience.

Tromsø International Film Festival (TIFF) – ongoing activities during the hold year with the Films from the North on tour

Tromsø International film Festival is a popular film festival for our audience, and an important meeting point for Norwegian and international film industry.

Films from the North is TIFF’s program for shorts and documentaries from the Barents region and other circumpolar areas. Films are qualified for the program as long as the subject, the production or the director, has a strong connection to the northern regions of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia or Canada.

RIDDU RIDDU

The Riddu Riđđu festival was started by the Sami associations in Kåfjord in 1991, as a Sea-Sami cultural festival. The festival has since become one of the largest Sami festivals and top annual festival for international indigenous peoples. The festival includes music, stage art, literature, children's program, Northern People's program, youth camp, film program, courses (workshops), seminars, art exhibition, market (bazaar), indigenous houses and much more.

Barentsjazz
is an annual jazz festival in Tromsø. Barentsjazz features some of the best jazz musicians from Norway and around the world. During the years 2011 - 2014, several joint activities will be implemented to enhance the musical collaboration in the Arctic area. The work is performed within the Music On Top is one of Europe's largest European projects in the cultural field. The project is owned by Norrbotten Big Band in Sweden, in cooperation with Oulu Symphony Orchestra and Oulu Music Conservatory in Finland and Culture in Troms, Musikk in Nordland, Scene Finnmark and Nord-Norsk Jazzsenter.

LUBU - Luleå Children and Youth Theater Festival
Five days with fifty performances from many parts of the Barents region. The focus of the festival is to showcase professional performing artsfrom the North, during the festival there will be visits from Beaivváš Sámi Našunálateáhter (Kautokeino), Giron sámi teáhter (Kiruna),  Katma Figure Theater (Nordland) and
Unga Scenkompaniet (Vaasa), plus many more.
During the festival there will be offered free transport to and from the festival and free admission for approx. 3000 children from all over Norrbotten.

Barents Reunion Convention
On June 12-13 the annual Barents Reunion convention takes place in HaparandaTornio. The topic for the 2013 convention is: "Transforming trade barriers into boundless opportunities".
The program is shaping up to provide an exciting mix of topics and speakers including Thorvald Stoltenberg, Paavo Lipponen, Gunnar Oom, Sven-Erik Österberg, Mika Riipi and Ole Norrback.

Kalottjazz & Blues Festival
Kalottjazz & Blues Festival is the largest jazz celebration in the far north and this truly international event takes place in Tornio and Haparanda where Finnish and Swedish cultures quite literally come together. The festival will invigorate these twin border towns for four days and nights of jazz and blues, with artists from around the globe performing in concert halls, in a jazz marquee, in town squares and in clubs.

Arctic Dance Circle
Dans i Nord cooperates with Dancearena Nord in Hammerfest and Jojo Dance Festival in Oulu within the Interreg project Arctic Dance Circle.
During the three-year project, each partner country hosts a co-production and is responsible for appointing the choreographer and hold auditions for dancers from the three partner countries. 2013 is Sweden's turn, and from 5 August, choreographer Helena Franzen with three dancers - one from each partner - will create and rehearse the new co-production which has its world premiere on 7 September at the Dans i Nord Dance Festival in Piteå. The production will also tour in other Barents Regions.

Västerbotten



Artic dance circle
Started on initiative by the municipality of Skellefteå in Västerbotten, and is managed by five partners in the northern parts of Sweden, Finland and Norway with funding from EU. The objectives of the project is to initiate cooperation between young people by arranging regular interchanges and workshops, and to improve interregional cooperation in dance and performing arts.

During 2013 the project arranges a nordic co-production including dancers from Finland, Norway and Sweden. The premiere of the piece will take place in the beginning of September in Piteå in Norrbotten, and it will then go on tour in Finland, Sweden and Norway.

The Film Arc operates for strengthening the audiovisual sector in the creative industries in Norrbotten, Västerbotten, Northern Norway and Northern Finland, i.e. the Film Arc region.

We work with the companies and freelancers working within the audiovisual industry to help their production services, documentaries, films, TV-formats, animations, cross media projects, games and other creative ideas to reach their goals - be it in the field of creativity, business or reaching their audiences world wide.

"Arctic Art Impulse"
"Arctic Art Impulse" is a programme of youth cooperation between Troms County and Arkhangelsk region.
