Several events on climate and environment were held in Arkhangelsk during the last week. Launch of a new climate project was followed by the meeting on Barents environmental Hot Spots. In addition, Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO) held several meetings on prospective environment and energy projects with municipalities of the region, Energy Efficiency Center and other stakeholders. Norway handed over the Chairmanship of the Working Group on Environment to Sweden during the Ministerial meeting in Vadsø. Concluding the Norwegian Chairmanship the main results of the work during the past two years were presented. One of these is the further elimination of the Barents Environmental Hot Spots in the Russian part of the Barents Region. Three new hot spots are now excluded from the list. The Swedish Chairmanship will further work on exclusion of the Barents Environmental Hot Spots, follow-up the “Barents 2050” and the Action Plan on Climate Change, continue emphasizing regional cooperation and finalize the Strategy for Protection of Intact Forest Read more
